If you are the mathematically inclined type and thrive on learning processes that are intellectually challenging, I would say go for CFA. The rigour is second to none, and it's one of the most reputable post-degree qualifications there is.

You have heard of accountancy, and you have heard of finance, but don't know the difference? Here's my explanation - As an accountant, you count other people's money (non-stop counting - count money, count stock, count papers, count tax) but have no say in making that money. Naturally, your pay and bonuses will depend on what's left after everyone involved in making that money have been paid for. You are like the housewife that gets very little appreciation for cooking all the meals for your family, as you don't seem to be bringing in any income, just spending it. On the contrary, In finance, you are the one CREATING the income and making money. You study, analyse and then execute - buy and sell stocks, debentures, bills, bonds and manage the risk and return and help deliver handsome returns. Just like the husband who comes back with the month-end salary. You are always the first to be rewarded - through a myriad of payouts including fees and commission and handsome paychecks. Just like the husband who gets to buy himself a nice treat at the end of the month cause he worked so hard in making that month's income. Sorry for such a comparison - I try having fun while writing stuff like this. 🤣🤣

Anyway - advice to parents and young people wanting to go into this field - don't exhaust all your mental juice on your SPM, STPM and your degree. You might become too tired to study for CFA cause that's like STPM times 3.

At the same time, the market wants specialized people, so post degree qualifications make a huge difference. Go for it while you can. After 40, your brain may feel a bit more tortured attempting this sort of exams.

And if you are really young by the time you have your CFA qualification, try to work outside Malaysia for a bit. Just my special tip!
